TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Teams, Coaches and Managers,
Thanks for being involved in the 2008 Shootout.
We broke the trend of the entire Spring with the weather, and had a great
tournament. We had a great time being a part of it all, and thanks to everyone
who played a part in the SITW 2008. All of the final results are posted above.
If you have any comments or suggestions for SITW 2009, please email me at
alveyrf@jaxnet.net and I will make sure
that we look at these things for next year to make our tournament bigger and
better. Thanks to all of you who came by and introduced yourselves, turned in
your critique sheets, and gave us ideas to improve our next tournament. We look
forward to seeing you back next year.
Sincerely,

2008 Tournament Schedules
are here!
Please review the schedule for your team to note
game times These will allow you to develop a travel plan that will meet
your games schedule times. The will be two locations for the tournament this
year, North Park Soccer complex, and Kate Campbell Soccer park.
The fields will indicate the location of the game
and the field number where your game will be located.
KCR is the abbreviation for Kate Campbell, and NP is
the abbreviation for North Park. You will need to allow about 20 minutes travel
time between the two complexes. Directions and maps of North Park and Kate
Campbell are available at Facilities. Here are also
the field layouts at each location: North Park and
Kate Campbell.
Please note that the field map for North Park is being redone due to the
practice field being converted to a 6 v 6 or 8 v 8 game field. Field 10 will be
an additional 8 v 8 game field at North Park therefore fields 7, 8, 9, & 10 will
be two 6 v 6 fields and two 8 v 8 fields. These will be remarked on the map the
the specific field locations and will be posted Monday.
The Memphis registration will take place next
Wednesday night April 16 at Germantown Middle School. The school is located at
the intersection of Poplar Pike and Hacks Cross. They will be there from 7 to
8:30 PM registering teams. The person doing the registration is Carilyn Jordan,

her car to make it easy to find her.
The host hotel for the Shootout In The West is
the Econolodge. (This is the same hotel that we have used as our host hotel for
the last three years. However, please note that the hotel has changed name from
the Comfort Inn to now the Econolodge.) Team registration will take place at the
Econolodge from 6 P.M. to 9 P.M. All teams are asked to check-in at this time.
If you have a late game on Saturday and will be driving in that morning you can
check-in at North Park. Please make sure to check-in at least 2 hours prior to
your match to allow time for registration. For teams that will be utilizing this
Saturday morning registration, please send an e-mail to
pope@jacksonareawidesoccer.com
so that this can be noted in your file.
Don’t forget if you are free Saturday night
that all of your players will receive a voucher to allow them to attend a Double
A Baseball game here, the Diamond Jaxx. It would make a fun outing for your
teams. You will get the vouchers when you check in, one for each player and

Please Note: Clarification By TSSA Regarding
U-8 Players:
Date: September 14, 2006
From: Andy Bolt, TSSA President
Subj: TSSA Sanctioned Tournaments/U8 Players
To: Association Presidents and Tournament Director’s
This memo is to serve as a reminder to all member associations that U8 and
younger players are only allowed to play division 4 (recreational soccer) in
Tennessee. We have been seeing pattern develop over the last year where
tournaments that are sanctioned by TSSA may have been allowing U8 players to
guest play. TSSA has received feedback from several members stating the
possibility that these violations are taking place. Per Policy 11 section A.
number 8 and Procedure 7 from the TSSA Administrative Manual U8 Players are not
allowed to play competitive soccer.
TSSA sanctioned tournaments need to abide by these policies even when dealing
with teams from other state associations. Some of the surrounding states do
allow U8 competitive play, but when they travel into Tennessee they must abide
by the rules and policies that govern all TSSA sanctioned events. This also
applies to USSF affiliated teams that are not registered through US Youth Soccer
(Us Club Soccer, AYSO, SAY…etc.).
Member associations and tournament directors need to make sure that these
violations are not happening in their tournaments. TSSA may put sanctions on
member associations that are found to be in violation of allowing U8 and younger
players to participate in their tournaments. These sanctions can include putting
the association in bad standing and not approving future tournaments. During the
current seasonal year 2006-07 the youngest player that can participate in a
competitive tournament would need to be born on July 31, 1998 or before that
date.
(Thus for the year 2007-2008 and for the Shootout In The West in April of
2008, the youngest player that can participate would need to be born on July 31,
1999 or before that date.)
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the state office, Vice
President of Competitive, Ken Underwood or myself directly. We thank you for
your support of TSSA and our programs.
Regards,
Andy Bolt
TSSA President
Coaches, Managers, and Players,

volunteers who helped make this tournament go so well. Below are the final

SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST 2006
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY COULD NOT HAVE
BEEN A BETTER WEEKEND FOR SOCCER IN JACKSON. After a fog bank lifted Saturday
morning, it was beautiful sunshine the rest of the weekend. By the end of the
day Saturday, the tournament had only gotten 25 minutes behind and on Sunday,
the last match finished 5 minutes past the projected end of the tournament. It
was fitting that the last two matches produced some of the best soccer of the
weekend. One match saw the best goal of the tournament a double header and the
final match went to a second round of shootout kicks to determine a
championship.
I hope that everyone enjoyed their weekend in Jackson for the "Shoout In The
West". We sure enjoyed having everyone for the tournament and look forward to
having you come back again next year. Thanks to all coaches, parents, players,
refs, and a lot of volunteers that helped make the "Shootout In The West" a
soccer festival for West Tennessee.
We have had rain, but as everyone knows from the past, we don't let a little
rain stop "THE SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST.".....Matter of fact, we haven't even let
even a lot of rain (7 inches in 2004) stop the tournament.
As of Friday, the fields at North Park and Kate Campbell had held up well to the
3 to 4 inches of rain that we have had. Matterfact, considering the rain, they
look GREAT !!! At 5 A.M. Saturday, we started putting out sand only in the areas
that had not drained.
The weather sure cooperated on Saturday and Sunday and I could not believe that
I even heard a comment that it was TOO hot. That sun sure looked great to me.
ANYTHING BUT RAIN. Last year I said that and it was COLD, this year's weather
was GREAT !!!!
I do hopt that everyone had a positive experience at the "Shootout In The West
2006". After getting home, if you have any suggestions or ideas as to how we can
improve the tournament in the future, please e-mail us. It is our goal to
continue to improve the tournament and to make it the best possible experience.
Please also let me thank our tournament director Kelly who did an absolutley
fantastic job.
Thanks again for being a part of the "SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST 2006."
Pope J. Mulherin, DPh
President of JAWS
The Shootout In The West 2005 had a record number
of teams entering. Thanks to everyone ~ players, coaches, parents and volunteers
for making the 2005 tournament even better than last year.
SHOOTOUT IN THE WEST 2004..... We
Wouldn't Let Rain Stop The Tournament !!!

7" of rain since Thursday .... but the Shootout In The West went on !!!
Thanks to unbelievable cooperation with the City of Jackson and a lot of
volunteers with squeegees ..... the Shootout In The West went on. With the
exception of 1 local game that had to be rescheduled, all matches were played.
Thanks to parents, coaches, managers, and players for their understanding and
consideration in allowing everyone to try to pull together to make the
tournament happen inspite of rain on Thursday, Friday, Friday night, Saturday
night, and Sunday afternoon.
Pope Mulherin and Mark Lykins, 2004 Co-Tournament Directors
